Transformatoren
Een transformator, ook wel trafo genoemd, zorgt ervoor dat de wisselspanning die uit het stopcontact komt wordt omgezet naar een lagere spanning waar een normaal huishoudelijk elektrisch apparaat op kan werken. Daarnaast kan een transformator ook een lage spanning omzetten in een hoge spanning. Een trafo werkt met een tweetal spoelen die met elkaar verbonden zijn door een metalen kern. De primaire spoel wordt aangesloten op een wisselspanning. De spanning veroorzaakt een magnetisch veld waardoor ook de in secundaire spoel wisselspanning ontstaat. Zo is een transformator altijd benodigd bij inbouwspots met een laagvolt halogeenlichtbron.
Veelal worden transformatoren gebruikt in huiselijke setting. De Osram Halotronic compact transformator is perfect voor in deze situaties. De kleine, zoals de naam al zegt, compacte transformator is met een primaire spanning van 230V en secundaire spanning van 11,2V uiterst geschikt voor laagvolt lichtsystemen.
Een groot deel van de trafo’s uit het assortiment transformatoren bestaat uit elektronische halogeen transformatoren. Dit soort transformatoren bieden diverse voordelen. Ze zijn gemakkelijk te dimmen, compact in afmeting, hebben een lange levensduur en ze produceren weinig geluid. Naast de elektronische trafo’s biedt Elektrototaalmarkt ook ijzerkerntrafo’s. Bij deze transformatoren, die ook bekend zijn als ‘bloktrafo’s’, zijn de primaire en secundaire wikkelingen gescheiden naast elkaar op de kern gewikkeld. Het rendement van ijzerkerntrafo’s ligt rond de 70-80%.
